Potjiekos Competition at the Kommetjie Festival

About the Kommetjie Festival

The Kommetjie Festival celebrates the unique spirit of the community. The mission is to bring together residents and build a stronger, more vibrant Kommetjie. All funds raised by the festival are used to support the community and to enhance the quality of life of its residents.

What happens at the Kommetjie Festival

Potjiekos Competition

It’s within our South African culture to make a good potjie, and so in the Potjiekos Competition a maximum of ten teams (max 5 people per team) will battle it out to make the best potjie.

Potjiekos Competition Judges

There will be three judges tasting the potjie recipes:

  • Chef Luke Dale Roberts

  • Alan the Bush Chef (owner of Kraal Kombuis and Komm Braai)

  • MasterChef South Africa winner (me, Shawn Godfrey)

Once the judges have tasted each Potjie, the participants can sell portions of their potjie for the public to taste.

Of course prizes can be won and the best potjies get rewarded with the following prizes:

  • Kettle Braai worth R4500

  • Enamel Red Pot worth R1500

  • 24 piece braai set worth R1000
