S’more Christmas trees
A fun Christmas treat to make with the kids
My kids love Christmas, and what’s not to love? Mom and Dad don’t need to work, we often go away for a roadtrip, presents and of course delicious food! This December, we made these s’more Christmas Trees with the kids and they loved getting involved, breaking the tennis biscuits up and separating out the red and green smarties. Of course the best part was tasting the end result.
Once you try these Christmas trees, you’ll want s’more!
Ingredients to make s’more Christmas trees
300g Milk chocolate
150g Tennis biscuits
1 cup white Mini marshmallows (55g)
a handful red & green smarties (or other colourful candies)
2-3 Tablespoons Christmas cake sprinkles
How to prepare s’more Christmas trees
Melt the chocolate in a heatproof bowl on a pot of boiling water on the stove.
Break the tennis biscuits into medium-sized chunks and put a cup full aside. Stir the rest into the melted chocolate. Add half of the mini marshmallows.
Line a baking tray or platter with cling wrap.
Scoop the chocolate mixture onto a tray lined with baking paper.
Spread it out into a rectangle shape.
Let the kids decorate the melted chocolate mix with the smarties, cake sprinkles, and the remaining mini marshmallows and tennis biscuit crumbs.
Leave the spread out chocolate to harden in the fridge for a few hours until solid. If you don’t want to wait too long, you can also put it in the freezer.
Once hardened, break or cut the chocolate it into Christmas tree-shaped shards and enjoy.

These are all of my favourite chocolate recipes. My kids love making Marie biscuit squares, and this no-bake version is a great egg-free alternative.
For birthdays, we often make a basic chocolate cake and then decorate it to match the theme. If you’re looking for a richer, more sophisticated variant, I can really recommend this chocolate torte. It’s rich, but delicious and the best way to end a Christmas lunch (with a cherry on top!).
If you’re looking for something that doesn’t have chocolate, why not try make a Dutch apple pie from scratch? This recipe is a goodie, past down generations and shared with me by my Dutch wife, Lianne. It’s the real deal. She also makes the fluffiest flapjacks, using this recipe, which pairs wonderfully with pecan nut brittle and with a berry compote.

Shawn Godfrey is an entrepreneur based in Cape Town, South Africa. After the Covid-19 lockdown saw his business in financial distress, cooking was the creative outlet that helped to keep him sane. To keep track of his recipes, and encourage friends and families to join him, he starts his instagram account The Roasted Dad.
Fast-forward to late 2021 - on a whim Shawn (encouraged by his wife Lianne) enters MasterChef South Africa. It is a crazy time of life: running a 200 people business and struggling to keep it profitable, two small children with a third on the way, and about to move into a new house. But when Shawn gets selected to be one of the 20 contestants participating in the fourth season of MasterChef South Africa, he decides to go all in. Leaving his 7-month-pregnant wife to look after their then three and one-year-old children, he battles it out and comes back home five weeks later with the trophy and a million rand prize money in his pocket.
It all started with an Instagram account, but The Roasted Dad is so much more now. Shawn has stayed his entrepreneurial self and whilst he hosts Private Dinner Parties and Cook-with-Me Demos, does Restaurant Take-Overs, he still runs the lighting company and several other businesses.
On his blog, Shawn shares Restaurant Reviews and Accommodation Reviews, and gives an insight into the wild and wonderful life he leads together with his wife Lianne, and their three children Aiden (8), Olivia (5) and Harvey (3).
